Adding Light to Sunset:From House to Home - August 15-17
Lightbearers recently purchased a home on Sunset (off Weddington) which will house 5-6 college girls this fall. As with all Lightbearers properties, the rent money will be sent overseas to projects in the 10/40 Window. In an effort to get the house ready for move-in day, we will be adding light to the property during the weekend of August 15-17. Similar to shows on HGTV, each room/space will have a team working in/on it. Each team will be given a budget to work with - by the end of the weekend, the house will be a home! We are looking for team leaders as well as project participants. If you are interested in helping with this project - or know of anyone who would be, please contact Lyndsey Watson at missions@ubcfayetteville.org.
UBC Freshman Lunch
Every year, UBC provides a FREE LUNCH for freshmen the Sunday before classes start. This year it will be on August 24th, following the 10:30 service. Freshman Lunch is a great way to get new students into our church, for them to meet our staff and other students, and to share the Gospel with them! Our college ministry needs help to provide homemade desserts for this lunch. If you can provide a dessert, please contact Becca Looney at blooney@ubccollege.com.
Sorority Recruitment 2008
We have an opportunity to reach out to college girls going through sorority recruitment. We are looking for ladies to serve drinks and food, talk with the girls and let them know about UBC.
The dates for this are:
Saturday, August 23- 9:00-5:30pm
Wednesday, August 27- 6:00-9:00pm
Thursday, August 28- 5:30-8:15pm
Friday, August 29- 3:00-10:00pm
Sunday, August 31-1:15-3:00pm
August 23 will be a great opportunity because it is the day before the UBC Freshman Lunch. Plus, there is no recruitment on the 24th, so the girls will be able to come to church!
Other ways you can get involved with sorority recruitment - we need desserts, fruit & vegetable trays, and lemonade to serve to them. We would also like to provide pillows - they experience long, tiring days during recruitment and will appreciate a place to lay their heads for a short while!
Adopt A Hog
Many college students are a long way from home and we would like to connect willing students with willing families for the purpose of providing that home away from home feeling and interaction with Godly families. This is a great way for students to meet people in the church, experience some good home cooked meals, as well as see what a Godly home looks like. If you and your family would like to “Adopt-A-Hog,” please contact our college ministry staff at 443-9874 or info@ubccollege.com.
