Dr. Sam Storms was our special guest this weekend. Sam has spent 36 years in ministry as a pastor, professor and author. He is the Senior Pastor of Bridgeway Church in Oklahoma City, OK. He’s served at churches in Texas, Oklahoma & Missouri and was Associate professor of Theology at Wheaton College in Illinois. He has authored 19 books and founded Enjoying God Ministries in Kansas City. Sam is a Sooner! He’s graduated from The University of Oklahoma (B.A.), Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M) and The University of Texas (Ph.D.). He and his wife Ann have been married for 38 years and are the parents of two grown daughters and have two grandsons. Dr. Moore is the Dean of the School of Theology and Senior Vice-President for Academic Administration at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also serves as a preaching pastor at Highview Baptist Church, where he ministers weekly at the congregation’s Fegenbush location. Dr. Moore is the author of The Kingdom of Christ and Adopted for Life.
Our guest speaker today is Dr. Gordon Fort. Dr. Fort was born in Sanyati, Zimbabwe, where his parents served as missionaries. He received the bachelor of science degree from Texas A&M University, College Station, and the master of divinity and doctor of ministry degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas. Dr. Fort is married to Leigh Ann Harrison of Fort Worth, Texas. They have four children, Sarah, Giles Harrison, Kathryn and Elizabeth.
Dr. Fort has served as a summer staff worker at Glorieta (N.M.) and was Pastor of Macedonia‑Hix Baptist Church, Caldwell, Texas. He has served the IMB in many capacities:
♦ Appointed missionary in February 1985.
♦ Language study in Lerato, Bophuthatswana, 1985-86.
♦ General evangelist in Maun, Botswana.
♦ Associate to Area Director for Southern Africa, July 1996-June
1997, living in Maun, Botswana.
♦ Regional Leader for Southern Africa, July 1, 1997-June 30,
2004
♦ Vice President for the Office of Overseas Operations at the International Mission Board, Richmond, VA, July 1, 2004–July 1, 2009.

Our guest speaker today is Dr. Chuck Lawless, the Dean of the Billy Graham School at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also holds the titles of Director of Doctoral Studies and the William Walker Brookes Professor of Evangelism and Church Growth. Dr. Lawless served as the pastor of two churches as a consultant to the International Missions Board and local churches, discussing issues of theological education and church growth with missionaries and churches around the world. Dr. Lawless has written several books on evangelism and church growth, as well as spiritual warfare, including Discipled Warriors, Membership Matters, and Putting on the Armor. We are grateful to have Dr. Lawless preach here again at UBC.

Since 2005, Don Whitney has been Associate Professor of Biblical Spirituality at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, where he also serves as Senior Associate Dean. Before that, he held a similar position (the first such position in the six Southern Baptist seminaries) at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri, for ten years. He is the founder and president of The Center for Biblical Spirituality. Don lives with his wife Caffy in their home near Louisville. She regularly teaches a class for seminary wives, works from their home as an artist, muralist, and illustrator and enjoys gardening and beekeeping. The Whitneys are parents of a daughter, Laurelen Christiana.
We were fortunate to have Don and his family with us all weekend during our Spiritual Formation Conference on Reformation in Worship, and then continuing in our Adult Bible Fellowship hour and Worship hour teaching on Family Worship.
